Job summary

Workstate seeks a COBOL Developer to join our team for an 18-month modernization project, converting legacy RPG II to COBOL on IBM z/OS in preparation for a cloud migration to Google Cloud Platform using the Raincode mainframe rehosting platform. This fully remote role is available to individuals in Colombia or Argentina with the right to work in that country.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of COBOL development on IBM z/OS and experience with DB2 for z/OS, JCL/TSO/ISPF, VSAM, and

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional COBOL development on IBM z/OS.
• Experience with DB2 for z/OS (embedded SQL, data modeling).
• Familiarity with JCL, TSO/ISPF and batch processing.
• Knowledge of VSAM and sequential files; experience with DFSORT/SYNCSORT and IDCAMS.

Responsibilities

• Convert legacy RPG II programs to COBOL on z/OS with clear, maintainable code.
• Analyze program logic, data flows and file layouts to preserve behavior.
• Develop and maintain JCL and batch job streams.
• Write and tune SQL for DB2 on z/OS and work with VSAM datasets.
• Support testing, data validation and parallel run reconciliation.
• Document convert programs, data dependencies and technical decisions.
