Job summary

BYD Colombia seeks a technically skilled engineer to coordinate chassis design, body compatibility, and interface requirements for bus projects. You will liaise with local bodybuilders, authorities, and ITS suppliers to ensure compliant configurations and integrated systems.

You will support R&D and Product teams in China with market needs and product adaptation opportunities, and travel within Latin America as needed to advance projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in buses, trucks, chassis, body structures, or related automotive systems.
• Experience in chassis design and integration, body compatibility, vehicle integration, automotive systems, or technical project support.
• Experience working with local bodybuilders such as Superpolo and Busscar, and with projects involving TMSA, BRT, or public transportation systems.
• Knowledge or experience with ITS, onboard equipment, intelligent public transportation systems, and system interface integration is desirable.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Coordinate technically with local bodybuilders, such as Superpolo, Busscar, and other partners, to define and validate chassis design, body compatibility, interface requirements, and technical solutions for each project.
• Manage technical communication and coordination with transportation authorities and organizations, such as TMSA, to gather, analyze, and confirm requirements related to vehicle homologation and certification, operating conditions, and technical requirements for project tenders.
• Coordinate with ITS and other system suppliers to define, configure, and integrate intelligent transportation systems, onboard equipment, and other vehicle-installed systems, ensuring compatibility and proper interaction between different interfaces.
• Coordinate the technical integration of the different stakeholders involved in projects, including R&D and Product teams in China, customers, bodybuilders, suppliers, and other relevant parties, supporting technical issue resolution and project progress.
• Provide technical support to the Sales team during customer interactions, including requirements gathering and analysis, vehicle configuration definition and validation, and technical support for tender and bidding processes.
• Support R&D and Product teams in China with market studies and analysis by providing information on local requirements, operating conditions, customer needs, applicable regulations, and product improvement or adaptation opportunities.
• Collect, analyze, and consolidate information regarding Colombian market regulations, operating conditions, customer requirements, competitors’ models, and technological development trends within the transportation sector.
• Support market research and analysis related to bus regulations, operating conditions, customer requirements, and product needs in other Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.
• Develop technical and product configuration recommendations, contributing to the definition of solutions adapted to market requirements and specific project needs.
• Monitor key project milestones and technical requirements, ensuring timely progress and facilitating communication and coordination among the different teams and stakeholders involved.
• Participate in technical meetings, customer, bodybuilder, and supplier visits, as well as project follow-up activities and technical solution validation when required.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in buses, trucks, chassis, body structures, or related automotive systems.
• Experience in chassis design and integration, body compatibility, vehicle integration, automotive systems, or technical project support.
• Experience working with local bodybuilders such as Superpolo and Busscar is highly desirable, as well as experience in projects involving TMSA, BRT, or public transportation systems.
• Knowledge or experience with ITS, onboard equipment, intelligent public transportation systems, and system interface integration is desirable.
• Fluent Spanish and strong English communication skills. Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese or Portuguese is a plus.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder coordination, project management, analytical, market research, and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate activities between local and international teams.
• Willingness to travel for short-term assignments within Colombia and to other Latin American countries.
