PAHO in Colombia seeks an experienced Communications Specialist to manage modern, high-impact digital content across social networks, PAHO website, and virtual media. You will support Health Communication implementation and help shape campaigns during health emergencies and outbreaks.

Responsibilities include developing external strategies, supporting field staff capacity, and covering PAHO/WHO activities while producing engaging content and visibility materials for diverse audiences.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences or related field is essential.
• Master's degree in Communication Sciences or related field is essential.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in communications and/or visibility, including press work.
• Experience designing and executing communication strategies, managing social media, and organizing public events is advantageous.

Responsabilidades

• Design, review, and evaluate campaigns; develop dissemination materials and fundraising content.

Organizational context: The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Job purpose: To manage the necessary components for effective and modern communication of PAHO/WHO in Colombia, with more attractive and innovative content to increase its reach through social networks, the PAHO website, and virtual media in an increasingly competitive digital information market. This aims to strengthen PAHO's reputation, visibility, and influence as the leading health organization in the Americas, and to improve understanding of the Organization's work and impact in the country, particularly during disease outbreaks, public health emergencies, and humanitarian crises. Implement and promote Health Communication to contribute to positive changes in population knowledge, behaviors, and practices, strengthen community participation, and favor disease prevention, environmental risk reduction, and health and well-being protection.

Responsibilities: Support, assist, and execute the management of internal and external institutional communication through the implementation of a communication plan aligned with the Organization's Strategic Communication Plan, incorporating the Organization's new modern, high-impact vision for digital media (social networks, website, virtual media). Assist in the execution of Health Communication (C4H) implementation, using communication principles and processes to inform and change behaviors and attitudes. Assist technical areas in designing, reviewing content, and evaluating communication campaigns across various platforms, as well as developing materials for dissemination and fundraising. Develop external communication strategies to raise awareness among media and key stakeholders about the importance of strengthening health technical cooperation and resource mobilization. Support capacity building for field staff, enhancing visibility of actions through social media and PAHO platforms, and optimizing the use of photos and videos. Cover information for PAHO/WHO activities, events, campaigns, and health observances. Develop success stories about PAHO/WHO cooperation in the country. Support the management of representation social media accounts. Support the design, adaptation, and dissemination of communication content related to the prevention, control, and elimination of communicable diseases and priority conditions, incorporating messages on environmental determinants of health.

Education: Essential: Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences or related field. Master's degree in Communication Sciences or related field.

Work experience: Essential: At least 5 years of general professional experience in communications and/or visibility, including press work in mass media. Experience in designing and executing communication strategies, social media management, and organizing public events and press conferences is an advantage. Desirable: At least three (3) years of experience in similar responsible positions and tasks related to communication management in government institutions or international organizations.

Skills: Communication and agenda-setting skills with various territorial actors. Technical knowledge in gender, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive rights, and parenting. Proficiency in computer systems and programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Publisher, CorelDRAW, Photoshop, video editing, and internet applications. Skill in corporate productivity software and cloud environments. Experience in creating visual and audiovisual products for awareness campaigns. Technical competence in Content Management Systems (CMS), digital media monitoring, and application of generative AI tools for editorial workflow efficiency.
