What's the role?

As a Litigation & Discovery In-house Counsel your role involves leading all aspects of litigation, arbitration, and legal disputes for Liberty in PR & USVI, from strategy development to representation in legal proceedings. You will also oversee and respond to discovery obligations, support the management of legal requests, and ensure the timely and compliant production of information. Additionally, you will manage extrajudicial and administrative claims filed by third parties and advocate for the Company in both judicial and administrative forums. Upholding safety, legal, and regulatory requirements is essential, as is promoting organizational values and standards. Operating with the highest ethical and professional integrity, you will foster inclusivity while ensuring adherence to compliance expectations across all aspects of your role.

How you can add value?

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of litigation, arbitration, and other legal disputes, including developing litigation strategy, coordinating responses to discovery requests and, where necessary, representing Liberty in legal proceedings in Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands
  • Provide advice on labor and employment matters.
  • Collaborate and prepare legal risks assessments on LCPR’s pivotal initiatives.
  • Effectively manage informal and formal administrative claims, attorney demands and litigation on behalf of the Company in an array of commercial, employment, consumer, and other matters.
  • Manage outside attorneys and insurance companies for strategic and economic resolution of litigation matters.
  • Coordinate oaths, take affidavits, declarations, or depositions from witnesses, acknowledge, and attest signatures, and certify copies, and other notary public duties and responsibilities.
  • Support the Company with the handling of various types of legal requests such as Subpoenas, Government Inquiries and Court Orders.
  • Appear before court or administrative forums on behalf of the company regarding subpoena proceedings, compliance with orders to show cause and/or other hearings.
  • Ensure that all activities of the organization stay in sync with the rules and regulations governing the industry in which they operate.
  • Demonstrate and ensure compliance with the Customer First Philosophy, all Liberty Latin America's policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.
  • Other functions may be assigned.

Education and/or experience:

Juris Doctor is required. Corporate, regulatory and/or in-house legal experience preferred.

Five to Six years of experience in the legal field.

  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Consistent record to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various challenging demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
  • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Computer Knowledge (Microsoft Office).
  • Fully Bilingual (Spanish and English).
