Job summary

Bluelight is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in Colombia (Bogotá) to lead the design and delivery of scalable API services using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS. You will build secure, multi-tenant systems with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB, implement Row-Level Security, and contribute to frontend work when needed.

You will join a fast-paced, collaborative consultancy that values ownership, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality software for diverse clients across the Americas.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend-focused software development experience.
• Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Proficient in building low-latency AWS-based API services and scalable RESTful APIs.
• Skilled at PostgreSQL/AuroraDB, including Row-Level Security, and secure multi-tenant environments.
• Comfortable writing raw SQL and managing schema migrations.
• Experience with React and solid testing practices, including integration tests.
• Ability to overlap US business hours and hold extreme ownership for deliverables.
• Bachelor's degree required; client-focused with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Build and evolve scalable RESTful APIs and AWS-based infrastructure.
• Implement secure multi-tenant data models and perform schema migrations.

Requirements

• 5+ years professional software development experience (backend-focused)
• Strong professional experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript
• Experience building low-latency API services in AWS
• Experience building scalable RESTful APIs
• Experience with SDK integrations to other services
• Experience with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB, including Row-Level Security (RLS)
• Experience building secure multi-tenant environments
• Comfortable writing raw SQL and managing schema migrations (e.g., node-postgres, node-pg-migrate)
• Professional experience with React
• Strong testing practices, including integration tests against real databases and failure-mode/fault-injection testing
• Experience working with AI coding assistants as part of daily development
• CI/CD application creation and maintenance skills
• Solid understanding of full stack development, with the ability to contribute to frontend work when needed
• Substantial background working with large, complex systems
• Ability to overlap US business hours
