Job summary

RocketRez is hiring an Engineering Team Lead for a full-time remote position. You will bridge ICs and leadership, delivering high-quality SaaS software while guiding a small team.

You will own backlog, prioritize work with Product, and ensure reliability, security, and usability standards across the product. 3–5 direct reports and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership exposure.
• 1–2+ years in a technical leadership role (tech lead, team lead, or EM).
• Strong experience delivering SaaS products with modern engineering practices.
• Familiarity with API design, security, and usability standards.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with Product, QA, and Support.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical execution, architecture discussions, and hands-on coding as a player-coach.
• Manage team backlog, coordinate with Product Management, and ensure timely delivery.
• Own performance, reliability, and delivery of the team’s software.
• Oversee release processes, on-call coverage, and runbooks/automation.

TheEngineering Team Leadrole exists to provide focused leadership within a specific area of the engineering organization. This role bridges the gap between individual contributors and senior engineering leadership, with a blend of technical execution, team management, and functional ownership.

Role Responsibilities

Technical Execution & Delivery

The Team Lead ensures that work is delivered consistently, on time, and with quality. They are expected to be technically hands-on and a player-coach; contributing to code reviews, architecture discussions, and even active development.

This includesmanagingandcommunicatingtheteam’sbacklog, partnering with Product Management to prioritizeincomingwork, and ensuring follow-through onalldeliverables.

They are directly accountable for the success of their functional area, including:

• Creating visibility into team progress, blockers, and impact and proactively communicating progress
• Driving outcomes and continuous improvement within their area of responsibility
• Owning the performance, reliability, and delivery oftheir team’s software
• Ensuring that deliverables meet organizational standards such as for security,usabilityand API guidelines
• Ensuringcustomerissues are triaged, prioritized, and resolved effectively
• Collaborating with other leads and stakeholders to align on goals and resourcing

Functional Ownership

The Team Lead owns the ongoing operation and maintenance of allsoftware their teamhas delivered or taken ownership over. This includesmanagingrelease processes,ensuringadequate on-call coverage for their systems, and the ongoing creation and maintenance of runbooksandautomation. The Team Lead also works closely with platform engineering to ensure costs arecontrolled and thatadequate telemetry, monitoring and alerting existfor their deliverables.

The role acts as the main point of contact for any cross-functional collaboration related to this area (e.g.customersupport, productmanagement, QA).

This role includesdirect peoplemanagement. The Team Lead supports a small group of engineers (typically3–5direct reports) by:

• Holding regular 1:1s
• Providing day-to-day coaching and guidance
• Supporting career developmentand leveling up technical skills and thinking of their team
• Facilitating performance conversations and feedback

Communication & Culture Building

The Team Lead communicates priorities, progress, and blockers to the broader org. They help foster a team environment grounded inRocketRezvalues: ownership, humility, presence, and continuous improvement. They are a first point of escalation and help drive resolution both within the team and across departments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including time as a senior/staff-level IC, plus 1–2+ years in a technical leadership role (tech lead, team lead, or EM) with direct accountability for a team's delivery
• Demonstrated "player-coach"track record— actively coding, reviewing PRs, and contributing to architecture while leading a team; experience owning a service end-to-end including release management, on-call, and reliability
• Strongproficiencyin delivering Software as a Service and modern engineering practices (code review, CI/CD, testing, cloud infra/cost management,monitoringand alerting); familiarity with API design, security, and usability standards
• Experience managing 4+direct reports (or clear readiness for a first people-management role): running 1:1s, coaching, supporting career development, and delivering direct performance feedback
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience partnering across Product, QA, and Customer Support and translating technical detail for non-technical stakeholders
• Alignment withRocketRez'svalues — ownership, humility, presence, and continuous improvement —demonstratedthrough past behavior
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
