remoti is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to maintain and extend a long-standing production accounting platform used globally. You will work with a large C codebase on Linux, focusing on stability, data exchange formats, security, and scalability across deployments.

You will diagnose customer-reported issues, implement changes for evolving requirements, and contribute to code reviews while maintaining build and deployment pipelines.

Formación

• Experience with C on Linux and macro-heavy codebases.
• Solid understanding of C macros and macro expansion.
• Ability to diagnose unfamiliar problems independently.
• Experience with SQL/relational databases, MySQL strongly preferred.
• Experience writing defensive shell/SQL scripts for execution by others in restricted environments.
• GNU toolchain (gcc, gdb, make, awk, bash) and Git.
• Demonstrated security awareness: PII handling, secure coding.

• Implement and modify financial data exchange programs per external specs (EFT, Positive Pay, studio export formats, IRS 1099).
• Write safe, defensive data repair scripts for execution by others against production or anonymized data.
• Participate in code reviews on a macro-heavy codebase.
• Author MySQL schema migration scripts applied safely across hundreds of live deployments.
• Maintain financial report generation for production accounting.
• Apply security best practices, particularly PII handling in transit, at rest, and in logs.
• Maintain build infrastructure (GNU Make, shell, AWK, Perl) and produce RPM packages for client Linux servers.

About the Role

This is a large, domain-rich codebase built over 30+ years. The underlying C libraries date to the 1980s and are heavily macro-driven; reading the code correctly requires understanding which apparent \"function calls\" are actually macro expansions with side effects or compile-time substitutions. The production accounting domain is genuinely complex, and proficiency takes time.

Position Overview The Senior Software Engineer will maintain and extend a proprietary production accounting platform used by film and television productions worldwide, handling accounts payable, purchase orders, payroll, bank reconciliation, 1099 tax reporting, and direct financial data exchange with banks, studios, and government agencies. The core is a mature C codebase (~300+ programs) on Linux with MySQL. The role centers on maintaining existing programs, diagnosing customer-reported issues, and implementing changes for evolving requirements.
