Job summary

Braintrust seeks a researcher to evaluate how AI systems solve real mathematical problems. This short-term project turns research workflows into reproducible tasks executed in a Linux terminal.

You will design multi-step tasks across numerical analysis and modeling, build solutions, inputs and tests, and document assumptions, tolerances and reproducibility requirements. Availability is five weeks at 40 hrs/week with some Pacific-time overlap.

Qualifications

• PhD or postdoctoral experience in mathematics, statistics or a closely related field.
• Strong programming in Python, R, Julia, C/C++, Bash, and Linux terminal environments.
• Experience implementing and validating computational algorithms with attention to numerical stability.

Responsibilities

• Design multi-step tasks in numerical analysis, optimization, statistics, or mathematical modeling.
• Build working solutions, inputs/outputs, and automated tests for correctness.
• Debug numerical issues and document assumptions, tolerances, and reproducibility.
