POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead is responsible for the provision of comprehensive clinical pharmacy services related to a specific area of practice to optimize safe, efficacious, and cost-effective drug therapy in accordance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety for Health Administration (OSHA), Medicare/Medicaid standards, and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead serves as a pharmacotherapy expert member of an interdisciplinary patient care team to provide direct patient care, perform pharmacotherapy consultations, provide medication-related education to patients and other interdisciplinary team members, participate in quality‑improvement or research initiatives, and contribute to the development of medication‑related best practice guidelines and policies related to their specific area of practice. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead serves as a leader for the department in their respective area of practice, organizing appropriate departmental initiatives and providing education for pharmacy colleagues and trainees at all levels of practice. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead demonstrates a working knowledge of the operational aspects of the pharmacy department and contributes to the overall departmental objectives as an integrated member of the pharmacy team. The Lead has direct supervision and management responsibilities specific to a specialty clinical team within the department. A Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead will meet and maintain the qualifications of a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist III. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Lead will be responsible for service line performance and continuity, including but not limited to schedule management, recruitment and retention, performance evaluation, education and training, and conflict management within the specialty team.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A Pharm.D. degree or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE‑accredited School of Pharmacy is required. Completion of an ASHP‑accredited Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency with at least three (3) years of experience in a specialty area or equivalent experience (PGY1plus five (5) additional years of experience with at least five (5) years in a specialty area; or eight (8) years of experience with at least five (5) years in specialty area, in health‑system pharmacy) is required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Current Pharmacy and Pharmacy Preceptor licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of Texas is required. Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (as appropriate to specialty) is required.
