Information Regarding the UNHCR Internship Program 2026

As far as the UNHCR Internship Program is concerned, it is open to all nationalities who are presently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate program, or who are recent graduates. Talking about the length of the program, it is 2 months (the minimum duration), but it can last up to 6 months.

Eligibility Criteria for the UNHCR Internship Program

If you would like to be considered for this internship opportunity, you must:

• Have completed a minimum of 2 years of undergraduate studies in a field that should be relevant to, or of interest to, the world of the organization.
• Not have immediate relations/relatives such as mother, father, sister, or brother working for the organization (UNHCR) as staff members or as affiliates at the time of application submission.
• Not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, including any previous internships (eight months for full-time and twelve months for part-time)
• Be fully conversant (competent in) with English language at a minimum B2 level.

Note: Recent graduates are those who have completed their studies within 2 years of applying for an internship with UNHCR.

Location of the UNHCR Internship Program 2026

There is no specific location for the internships. They are offered at different locations, including UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, Budapest, the Global Service Centers in Amman and Copenhagen, or in field country offices. They are subject to the approval of their managers. Interns could telework within or outside of the country of their duty station.

UNHCR Internships can start at any time during the year. They usually last between 2 to 6 months with the possibility of extension. Details are mentioned ahead.

• Up to 8 months for full-time internships, or
• Up to 12 months for part-time internships

It is worth noting that the above maximum periods apply cumulatively, including any previous internship programs at UNHCR.

Interns who are not offered any kind of support from other organizations will be supported by the UNHCR for the following coverage:

Travel – return travel costs will be reimbursed

Stipend – they will be provided with a stipend to cover basic living costs and local transportation

Visa – there will be assistance with visa documentation. For visa fees, interns will be responsible for the same.
