Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking a freelance Senior TypeScript Backend Engineer for a 3-month contract, likely to extend. You will join a product development team focusing on backend services and AI-powered capabilities built on LLMs and agentic workflows.

The role requires hands-on TypeScript backend expertise, API design, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, experimental environment.

Qualifications

• Senior-level hands-on TypeScript backend expertise (Node.js with NestJS, Express or Fastify).
• Proven delivery of production-grade applications from concept through to release.
• Strong API design and system integration experience.
• Ability to own features independently with minimal oversight.
• Working knowledge of LLMs, agentic AI and AI-powered applications.
• Familiarity with AI agent frameworks, orchestration patterns and tool integrations (advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Design, build and iterate on backend features end-to-end for an experimental product initiative.

• Collaborate with a small team of senior engineers to deliver production-ready software.

Project focus

Two senior, hands-on engineers are needed to join a product development team working on an experimental, high-ambition product initiative. You will independently design, build and iterate on product features end to end, with a strong focus on backend services and AI-powered capabilities built on LLMs and agentic workflows.

Key skills and Experience required

• Senior-level, hands-on TypeScript expertise on the backend (Node.js with NestJS, Express or Fastify)
• Proven delivery of production-grade applications from concept through to release
• Strong API design and system integration experience
• Ability to own features independently with minimal oversight
