CERN seeks a software engineer to modernise its Geodetic Metrology data management system, migrating legacy Oracle APEX/PL/SQL apps to a Java/Spring Boot and Angular platform, while redesigning a mission-critical application for CERN's Accelerator Complex.

You will analyze Oracle APEX pages, implement Spring Boot REST APIs and Angular frontend, and participate in the full SDLC with agile practices, ensuring maintainable, scalable solutions and strong end-user collaboration.

Drive the modernisation of CERN's Geodetic Metrology data management system, migrating legacy Oracle APEX/PL/SQL applications to a Java/Spring Boot and Angular platform, while leading the redesign of a mission-critical application for CERN's Accelerator Complex.

Your responsibilities

• Analyse Oracle APEX pages, processes and PL/SQL packages to understand business workflows and data dependencies.
• Implement Spring Boot REST APIs and Angular Frontend.
• Write automated tests and apply software quality practices.
• Participate in the whole software development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing), following a modern agile approach to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Interact with the end-users of the services to understand their needs and help translate those into appropriate software solutions.
• Build strong partnerships with IT and multidisciplinary teams across CERN to ensure the delivery of reliable, maintainable, and scalable software solutions aligned with current needs and future strategic goals.
• This role includes team supervision responsibilities.

Your profile

• Practical experience with concurrent and multithreaded programming.
• Experience applying software quality assurance practices and using related tools (code review, preparing tests, deliver high quality documentation, unit tests, clean code, sonarqube).
• Experience in ICT systems architecture and design, including the design of scalable services and APIs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Oracle APEX would be an asset.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of the Spring framework ecosystem.
• Strong knowledge of relational database systems, particularly Oracle Database, including proficiency in PL/SQL.
• Ability to design reliable software services following SOLID principles or similar best practices.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools, methodologies, and procedures.
• Ability to deliver high-quality work on time and meet expectations.
• Contributes to a positive team environment through an optimistic and constructive attitude while proactively addressing issues.
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

• You have a professional background in Software Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
  • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
  • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
