CERN in Geneva is seeking a researcher to advance detector R&D with radiation-tolerant Silicon Photonics for high-speed data transmission. You will work on PIC characterisation, photonic device design, and integration with readout chips in a lab-heavy environment.

The role spans photonics, electronics and particle detection, with hands-on measurements, simulations and data analysis. A Master’s/PhD plus relevant experience is required; 40-hour weeks, onsite, starting Sep 2026.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation experience or PhD with <=3 years post-graduation experience.
• Experience in design and simulation of photonic components and PICs is essential.
• Ability to perform lab characterisation using OSAs, tunable lasers and diagnostic instruments.

Aufgaben

• Contribute to electro-optical characterisation of photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
• Validate PIC measurements against optical simulations.
• Support integration of PICs with readout chips (ROCs).
• Prototype CWDM data-transmission systems.
• Characterise and benchmark data-link architectures.
• Design new test PICs from measurement results.
• Present progress at meetings and conferences.
• Document results and methods.
