Job summary

Coherent is seeking a Test Systems Engineer to design and deliver automated burn‑in and electro‑optical test systems for laser diode manufacturing. You will work across electrical design, software, automation, and production equipment, taking ownership of complete system solutions from concept through commissioning.

You will partner with manufacturing, process engineering, and product development to ensure robust production systems, high quality, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience designing electrical control systems incl. power distribution and machine safety.
• Strong background in analog electronics and measurement hardware.
• Proficiency in C# or an object-oriented language.
• Experience working with SQL databases.
• Several years of experience developing production equipment, automated machinery, or industrial tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain electrical control systems, including power distribution, control circuits, electrical schematics, and machine safety systems.
• Develop PLC software and supporting software applications for automated production and test equipment.
• Integrate measurement hardware, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation into automation and test systems.
• Commission, validate, and optimize burn‑in and electro‑optical measurement systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical, software, and automation‑related issues to ensure reliable operation of production equipment.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop and continuously improve manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including electrical schematics, software documentation, and operating procedures.
• Design new test systems and integrate them into existing software and manufacturing environments.
