SCOR is seeking a Senior Python Developer for the IT Internal Modelling team within Risk Delivery & Engineering in Zürich. You will shape front-to-back logic of running computationally intensive applications using Python, Docker, Databricks and Azure, with ownership of core platform components.

The role combines deep full-stack expertise with design decisions, migration to a modern web stack, DevOps adoption, mentoring colleagues, and collaboration with architecture, quantitative developers

As a team member of the IT Internal Modelling team within the Risk Delivery & Engineering you will be engaged in shaping the front-to-back logic of running computationally intensive applications which use the state of art technologies such as Python, DataBricks, Docker and Microsoft Azure. The role also contributes directly to building and evolving the system, operating at Senior Python Developer level by combining deep full-stack expertise, ownership of key platform components and strong technical contribution within the domain.

Responsibilities

Key duties and responsibilities

• Design, efficient, testable, reusable, and reliable code in Python, Docker on a web platform
• Implementation and enhancement of the Front end and Back end of applications responsible for task orchestration
• Implementation and design of the solution on cloud (mainly Microsoft Azure)
• Working on solutions which uses Linux, Docker, DataBricks, JupyterHub, SQL Server, …

Closely work together with IT Technical team to handle automation, incidents, and 3rd level support

• Integration of user-facing elements with server-side logic
• Work collaboratively in architecting/developing solutions
• Working with the team of very skilled Quantitative Developers

Play a key role in the migration of the system towards a new technological web stack, contributing to design decisions and ensuring a smooth and sustainable transition.

Actively contributes to architecture and innovation efforts by introducing modern engineering practices, improving performance, usability and scalability, and challenging the status quo where appropriate.

Introduce and adopt DevOps tools and frameworks that improve developer productivity and strengthen the platform

Act as a technical reference point within the team, mentor colleagues, elevate engineering standards and collaborate closely with Architecture, numerical developers and DevOps stakeholders.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies/industry trends

Qualifications

Required experience & competencies

• 7+ years professional experience building complex, scalable applications is essential
• Proficient understanding of Git and DevOps standards is essential
• Thorough knowledge of Python and Docker is essential

Deep full-stack expertise with proven ownership of key platform components in a business-critical application environment.

Ability to contribute to architecture discussions, modern engineering practices, platform evolution and continuous improvement initiatives.

Experience mentoring colleagues and acting as a technical reference point for complex development, platform and DevOps topics.

• Proficient in overall web development and web architecture
• Firm grasp of OOP, FP & SOLID design principles
• Experience working with scrum or other agile methodologies
• Several years in Financial Services industry, preferably Insurance/Reinsurance
• Very good knowledge of English
• Good communication skills with IT and Business
• Team spirit
• Good analytical skillsInterested in learning new technologies
• In addition the following will be considered of advantage:

  • Previous experience on building solutions on the cloud (Azure or AWS)

  • Knowledge in building big data application (i.e.: Spark, Databricks, etc.)
  • Previous experience with .NET/C#
