CERN is looking for an experienced professional to reinstall and recommission the Resonance Ionisation Laser Ion Source (RILIS) for ISOLDE. The role focuses on integrating lasers, hardware, and software to enable continuous operation and on-call support in a 40-hour week.

The project targets delivering beams again in summer 2028 to a global user community. You will develop resonance ionisation schemes, document requirements, and collaborate within an international team.

Qualificações

• Demonstrated experience in installation, commissioning and operation of complex laser systems.
• Strong background in experimental photonics, laser physics or optical instrumentation.
• Experience with laboratory automation, control systems and scientific software development.
• Experience preparing technical documentation and operational procedures.

Responsabilidades

• Install lasers and required hardware/software to operate RILIS on a 24/7 basis with automated stabilization and monitoring.
• Test the new pump lasers.
• Develop new resonance ionisation schemes for moving RILIS to a solid-state laser laboratory.
• Document the laser system with a detailed operational requirement specification.
• Participate in setup and operation of the laser ion source including on-call duties.
