Zusammenfassung

Julius Baer is seeking a senior backend and distributed systems engineer to design, build, and operate mission‑critical financial systems. You will own end‑to‑end delivery of scalable Java services, with a focus on low‑latency and high availability, collaborating across Zurich and Singapore.

You will shape architecture and operational models for a strategic new channel integrated with the bank's e‑banking ecosystem, working with product managers and cross‑functional teams.

We are seeking for a senior backend and distributed systems engineer with extensive experience designing, building, and operating mission‑critical financial systems. Proven expertise in Java‑based backend architectures, distributed systems, and low‑latency, high‑availability services. Strong production mindset with end‑to‑end ownership across the full software lifecycle—from architecture and design through deployment, operations, and optimization. Comfortable acting as a technical authority in complex, globally distributed environments. In addition to enhancing our core platform, the team is building a strategic new channel that brings investment capabilities directly to the bank’s external clients through seamless integration with the e‑banking platform. Engineers joining the team will have the opportunity to shape the architecture, scalability, and operational model of this highly visible initiative from an early stage.

YOUR CHALLENGE

• Design and evolve robust distributed systems, balancing scalability, latency, consistency, and fault tolerance
• Apply distributed systems principles (e.g. consistency models, idempotency, back‑pressure, resiliency patterns) to real‑world financial workloads
• Develop and maintain high‑performance backend services and APIs using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Optimize end‑to‑end latency, asynchronous processing, and efficient IO
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through profiling, benchmarking, and load testing
• Integrate complex financial platforms and third‑party services, ensuring correctness, data integrity, and operational resilience
• Contribute to the expansion of the platform into digital client channels, designing and building backend services that power client‑facing wealth and investment capabilities integrated into the bank’s e‑banking ecosystem
• Design reliable messaging and integration flows using JPA, JDBC templates, JMS, and event‑driven patterns
• Code Quality and Best Practices: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to industry best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD
• Apply financial‑grade engineering principles (auditability, security, controlled change) and collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications and deliverables

YOUR PROFILE

• Languages & Platforms: Java (Core Java, Collections, JSON, JDBC), Spring Framework, Spring Boot
• Architecture: Distributed systems, microservices, event‑driven design, low‑latency systems
• Databases & Messaging: JPA, JDBC, relational databases, JMS
• Operating Systems: Unix/Linux, bash scripting
• Security: OAuth2, API security, IAM concepts
• Good code review practices and pride in code quality
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
• Willingness to collaborate in a global team with members in Zurich and Singapore
• Previous experience in the financial industry is a plus
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Exposure to API security, OAuth2, and related standards
• Strong ownership mindset with focus on business impact and reliability
