Job summary

Julius Baer in Zurich seeks a Senior Java Engineer to lead the design and development of a cloud-native backend system as part of a strategic initiative to modernise a large-scale legacy application.

You will architect a complete re-architecture using Spring Boot, build scalable services, operate high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud, and mentor engineers while embracing AI-assisted development tools.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of server-side Java development in regulated, high-performance domains.
• Deep proficiency in Java 21+ and the Spring ecosystem (Boot/Data/Security/Cloud).
• Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency systems with asynchronous tech and brokers.
• Cloud-native microservices experience on AWS/Azure/GCP, including migration of monoliths.
• Proficiency in RESTful APIs and gRPC with security best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead a complete re-architecture using modern Java technologies, primarily Spring Boot.
• Build scalable, resilient services from the ground up.
• Develop and operate high-throughput, distributed systems in a cloud environment.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without quality loss.
• Mentor junior engineers and act as a technical leader in transformation programmes.
