Frontify, the brand platform, is seeking a backend-focused engineer to own media processing at scale. You’ll transform images and videos, manage Kubernetes deployments, and optimize delivery costs while collaborating with teams across the company.

You’ll work with Node.js services and occasional C++ work, using FFmpeg, AWS, and CDN tooling to support global brands. A strong handle on architecture and production readiness is essential.

Qualifikationen

• Experience designing, building and maintaining high-quality backend services.
• Production experience with Kubernetes and autoscaling.
• Strong knowledge of AWS components (S3, CloudFront, Lambda) and cost optimization.
• Familiarity with media pipelines (FFmpeg, codecs) a plus.
• Reading and debugging native code (C++) when needed, not mandatory.

Your Mission

Our team owns Frontify’s media delivery path end-to-end, the engine that processes and serves every image and video, at ~180 TB of traffic a month. We build it and run it: from bulk asset transformation and fast preview generation to the Kubernetes infrastructure and CDN caching it all runs on. Our mission: media processing and delivery that absorbs any customer’s spike without ever slowing another customer, at a cost we’re proud of. You will play a significant role in making this a reality and in solving the technical challenges along the way.

Your Responsibilities

• You'll build and enhance our media transformation engine — resizing, format conversion, and video processing — built on FFmpeg and native libraries, mostly through our Node.js services and occasionally in the C++ core.
• You'll design and operate our services on Kubernetes (EKS): Helm charts, deployments, alerts. And simplifying what's grown too complex.
• You'll work on our async bulk-processing capabilities: job queues, autoscaling for spiky workloads, and fairness between customers.
• You'll help keep the delivery path fast and cheap, working with our caching and CDN layer (Varnish, HAProxy, CloudFront).
• You'll participate in code reviews and write things down — designs, decisions, and runbooks — so the team's knowledge lives in documents, not in heads.

Your Story

• You have experience designing, building, and maintaining high-quality, scalable backend and background processing services (Node.js, TypeScript, Go, or similar).
• You have operated your own services in production on Kubernetes — Helm, monitoring, debugging live systems — not just deployed once and walked away.
• You possess solid experience with AWS architecture and infrastructure, particularly regarding performance optimisation and cost management for S3, CloudFront, Lambda functions, and ALB at scale.
• You're comfortable in Docker and Linux, and can read, compile and debug native code (C++) when the engine misbehaves, but you don't need to be a C++ expert.
• Experience with media pipelines — FFmpeg, codecs, image or video processing — is a big plus; HDR and video expertise especially so.
• Frontify's product is largely PHP; our path is mostly C++ and Node.js with a couple of PHP components. You don't need to be a PHP developer — but reading it and fixing the occasional bug shouldn't put you off.
• You speak English fluently.
