Senior Application Engineer – Freelance – Zurich
Location: Zurich
Availability: 100%
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: Until the end of the year

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Application Engineer to join their team in their Zurich office. This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong Python and Azure skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and experience building scalable backend services in a data-driven environment. Key Responsibilities:

1. Understand business requirements and convert them into technical specifications
2. Hands-on coding in Python and PySpark
3. Oversee the end-to-end application architecture
4. Design and build business services that generate financial data from various sources
5. Ensure implementation of both functional and non-functional requirements with a high level of test automation
6. Coach junior team members and conduct peer reviews
7. Coordinate follow-up activities and maintain timely communication with stakeholders
8. Apply Agile Scrum and DevOps best practices
9. Support operations during quarterly closing cycles

Skills & Experience:

1. 8+ years of experience designing and implementing scalable backend applications
2. Proficient in Python, PySpark, and SQL
3. Strong experience with Azure services including Databricks, Data Factory, and Data Lake
4. Experience with relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL
5. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
6. Proficiency in test-driven development and modern CI/CD practices
7. Strong analytical mindset and commitment to quality and timely delivery
8. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
9. Previous experience in financial, accounting, or reporting systems is a plus
