UniBE is seeking a SEM lab-manager with teaching responsibilities within the Structural Geology/Tectonics group at the Institute of Geological Sciences in Bern. This role combines research leadership with teaching at MSc and PhD levels and includes SEM facility maintenance and user support.

The appointment is initially fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension following a positive evaluation.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Earth Sciences or related discipline.
• Experience in scanning electron microscopy (EDS/EBSD/CL) applications.
• Teaching experience.
• Ability to collaborate with SEM users and technicians.
• Innovative research proposal.
• Physical presence during core working hours.
• German language skills or ability to reach advanced level.

Aufgaben

• Teach theory of microbeam analysis and provide practical training at MSc and PhD levels.
• Support SEM users with SEM-related research tasks from high-resolution imaging to EBSD to mapping.
• Maintain SEM facility including simple servicing and liaising with technicians for major issues.
• Conduct own research projects including obtaining project funding from agencies and industry.
• Provide strong background in Structural Geology/Tectonics for research and teaching activities.
