MSW in Winterthur is seeking a Head of IT to lead the IT landscape, steer strategic and operational development, and directly contribute as a System Engineer. You will manage a small team, oversee security and governance, and collaborate with external IT partners.

The role combines hands-on system engineering with strategic IT planning, overseeing budget and projects to keep infrastructure modern and secure.

Qualifikationen

• Completed training as an IT specialist EFZ (system technology / platform development) with HF/FH or equivalent qualification.
• Several years of professional experience in administering modern IT infrastructures (Windows/Linux servers, virtualization) and IT project management.
• Sound knowledge of network architecture (routing, switching, firewall).
• First leadership or project management experience and ability to lead a small team.

Aufgaben

• Operational IT operation with stable, supported and developing IT infrastructure including network, firewall, servers and Microsoft cloud.
• Participation in 1st–3rd level support and rapid resolution of system faults.
• Development and implementation of IT strategy and management of IT projects aligned with MSW's overall strategy.
• Leadership and coordination of IT staff and external service providers.
• Responsibility for IT security, data protection, cyber resilience and process optimization.
• Advising school management and departments and managing the IT budget.

Shape the digital future of MSW.

As Head of IT, you are responsible for the strategic and operational development of our IT landscape. Together with your small team, you ensure a secure, modern, and reliable IT operation.

MSW is a training centre of the city of Winterthur for technical apprenticeships in the field of mechatronics. Thanks to the combination of the three learning locations under one roof, theory and practice can be optimally coordinated. This comprehensive training enables learners to transfer to the university of applied sciences, and MSW is an alternative to academic secondary education. MSW trains apprentices in the professions of polymechanics, automation, and electronics.

From 1 January 2027, we are looking for a committed, implementation-strong, and solution-oriented personality as Head of IT / System Engineer.

In this key position, you take overall responsibility for the IT landscape of MSW. You develop our IT strategically and operationally, lead a small team (1 employee), and actively work as an experienced System Engineer in operational operations.

Your tasks

• Operational IT operation: Ensuring stable operation as well as active, operational support, maintenance, and further development of the entire IT infrastructure (network, firewall, physical and virtual servers, Microsoft cloud)
• Support & troubleshooting: Active participation in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level support as well as rapid resolution of system faults in everyday life
• Strategy & projects: Development and implementation of the IT strategy as well as management of IT projects in line with the overall strategy of MSW
• Leadership & coordination: Professional and personnel management of the IT employee as well as targeted control and coordination of external IT service providers and partners
• Security & governance: Responsibility for IT security, data protection, cyber resilience, and continuous optimisation of IT processes
• Consulting & budget: Advising the school management and specialist departments as well as responsibility for the IT budget

Your profile

• Completed training as an IT specialist EFZ (system technology / platform development) with corresponding further training (HF/FH) or an equivalent qualification with several years of professional experience
• Several years of solid experience in the administration of modern IT infrastructures (Windows/Linux servers, virtualisation, M365/Azure) as well as in managing IT projects
• Sound knowledge in the field of network architecture (routing, switching, firewall/security)
• First leadership or project management experience as well as the ability to lead a small team in a partnership-based and goal-oriented manner
• Willingness to actively participate daily in operational operations alongside conceptual tasks. You are communicative, service-oriented, and keep an overview even in hectic times
