ETH Zurich is inviting applications for a joint professorship in Solid-State Materials within the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences. The successful candidate will lead the Laboratory for Multiscale Materials eXperiments, developing a world-class research programme and mentoring students.

The Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences (www.chab.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich and the PSI Center for Neutron and Muon Sciences (CNM, www.psi.ch/en/cnm) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Villigen (www.psi.ch) invite applications for a joint professorship in Solid‑State Materials.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Laboratory for Multiscale Materials eXperiments (LMX) in CNM in a joint appointment with ETH Zurich.
• Develop a world‑class research programme in solid‑state materials, integrating inorganic chemistry, condensed matter physics, and materials science.
• Manage and support several existing research groups within LMX, including the operation of the novel material synthesis facilities in the Quantum Materials and Materials Discovery Center (QMMC).
• Mentor and supervise students and postdocs and provide teaching at undergraduate (German or English) and graduate (English) levels.
• Foster synergies with PSI facilities (SINQ, SµS, SLS, SwissFEL) and the European Spallation Source in Sweden.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry, materials science, physics or a related field.
• Strong international record of research accomplishments in materials discovery, advanced structural characterization, electronic and quantum materials, 2D‑materials and their applications in electronics and optoelectronics.
• Experience in the design, synthesis, characterization and application of solid‑state inorganic materials, including bulk crystals, thin films, heterostructures and 2D materials.
• Demonstrated leadership: proven track record of leading large research groups or units.
• Commitment to student education and proven teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
