Zusammenfassung

The Geneva Graduate Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (F/M/D) to lead research on NATO’s institutional narratives and memory politics within the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding. The project focuses on NATO’s evolving identity and memory politics across multiple accession phases, with archival and comparative work.

The role is 80% (32 h/week) for 2.5 years, starting 1 January 2027, with salary and conditions in line with SNSF regulations.

Qualifikationen

  • PhD completed by the starting date in international history or a related discipline.
  • Strong archival research skills; oral history experience is an asset.
  • Excellent academic writing and publication record.
  • Ability to develop an independent research agenda while working in a collaborative international team.
  • Fluency in English; additional European languages are an asset.

Aufgaben

  • Lead the project’s research on NATO as an institution and its evolving identity.
  • Examine NATO’s institutional narratives, commemorations, and public diplomacy.
  • Conduct archival research including NATO archives in Brussels and other national archives.
  • Contribute to high-quality single- and co-authored publications and conferences.
  • Collaborate with doctoral researchers and manage open digital archive activities.
