Jobbeschreibung

Postdoc in applied laser physics

Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain with around 1,100 employees. Materials science and technology are our passion; our cutting-edge research contributes to the well-being of society for a future worth living.

Laboratory of Advanced Materials Processing (LAMP) is a multidisciplinary research unit that develops innovative functional modification of materials by beam (e.g., laser light, electrons) and plasma-induced processing. LAMP provides full-cycle technology development, from novel materials and the background physics of beam–matter interactions to the development of automated AI/ML systems for materials processing and quality assurance. The lab combines additive manufacturing, large-scale laser micro-processing, multiscale modelling and AI/ML for quality monitoring and control, ultimately delivering novel nanostructured materials, their shape-forming, and integration into devices.

Responsibilities
  • Operation of different laser platforms
  • Conceptualization and setup of optical systems
  • Hardware synchronization and data acquisition
  • Conduct of experimental campaigns, evaluation of results and reporting
Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Physics/Photonics/Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience: Laser applications (measuring, processing, etc.), optical system design, assembly and usage
  • Skills: Hands-on experimental mindset, strong understanding of laser and optical physics, strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, experience with data analysis and experimental optimization
  • English, French and German as a plus
