Job summary
EPFL in Lausanne invites applications for a PhD position in Urban provisioning systems, sufficiency behaviour, and well-being. The HERUS group investigates how urban infrastructure shapes resource use, emissions, and wellbeing, with collaboration with Freiburg University.
The project focuses on social and behavioural dimensions tied to socio-metabolic research and spatial analysis. The PhD will work with HERUS team and partners, publish in journals, and contribute to teaching and supervision
Qualifications
- Experience or strong interest in quantitative or mixed-methods research (survey design, statistical analysis, choice modelling).
- Spatial data analysis and micro-data modelling are desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop an interdisciplinary framework linking urban provisioning systems, resource flows, and well-being.
- Conduct systematic reviews of urban interventions across services (housing, mobility, amenities).
- Create high-resolution synthetic household populations for case-study cities using micro-data and survey data.
