The University of Basel invites applications for a 100% 4-year PhD position in the Photonic Ultrafast Systems and Nano-Photonics Groups. The project focuses on micron-scale fibre cavities, nano-fabrication with femtosecond lasers, and quantum communication technologies.

The successful candidate will join interdisciplinary teams in Basel and Northwestern Switzerland and contribute to cutting-edge quantum photonics research.

Qualifikationen

• BS or MS degree in physics, photonics, engineering, or a related field.
• Motivated for applied experimental laboratory work.
• Experience with femtosecond lasers and/or quantum optics is a plus.
• Experience with scientific programming and data analysis (Python, MATLAB) is a plus.
• Communication and teamwork skills.

Aufgaben

• Develop micron-scale fibre cavities with high in-and-out coupling efficiencies.
• Perform nano-fabrication using femtosecond laser ablation.
• Design and build open micro-cavities with nano-machined fibres for quantum communications.
• Design and build a micro-cavity femtosecond laser for high data rate telecommunications.
• Collaborate with groups at Northwestern Switzerland and Basel.
