ETH Zurich's Chair for Physical Chemistry of Building Materials invites applications for a PhD position on stone conservation, focusing on contour scaling mechanisms in molasse sandstone. The project combines 3D printed stone analogues with on-site monitoring and testing of potential treatments.

The PhD candidate will collaborate with colleagues in Digital Building Technologies and work in a diverse, international environment.

Competenze

• Masters degree in conservation science, materials science or related field.
• Experience in heritage conservation science is preferred.
• Excellent English, German knowledge advantageous

Mansioni

• Use 3D printed stones in the unique testing facilities of the Chair for Physical Chemistry of Building Materials.
• Reproduce weathering conditions under laboratory settings.
• Develop methods for rapid detection of contour scaling on site and explore strategies to halt propagation and/or formation of contour scales
