ETH Zurich seeks a PhD Student in Law for a SNSF-funded project on Responsible AI for the Swiss Judiciary. The doctoral researcher will study AI's role in judicial decision-making, combining legal analysis with experimental methods.

You will collaborate across Switzerland, publish in leading journals, and present at international conferences, contributing to a cross-disciplinary program at the intersection of law, CS, and social science.

Qualifikationen

• Hold an excellent bachelor's and master's degree in law from a Swiss university.
• Strong interest in judicial decision-making and legal reasoning.
• Interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law, AI and social science.
• Motivated to work with quantitative empirical methods and acquire skills in experimental and quantitative research.
• Excellent command of English; German and/or French language skills are a plus.

Aufgaben

• Study judicial decision-making and legal reasoning in the presence of AI tools.
• Contribute to the development of experimental designs and evaluation frameworks for AI-assisted decision-making.
• Collaborate with the technical team to study the interaction between AI systems and legal users.
• Publish research findings in leading journals and present at international conferences.
• Position designed for a cumulative PhD at the intersection of law, computer science, and empirical social science.
