Zusammenfassung

The Macromolecular Engineering Laboratory at ETH Zurich invites applications for a full-time doctoral candidate to study molecular engineering of dynamic covalent hydrogels. The project aims to link molecular-scale design to macroscopic mechanics using ITC, NMR, UV–vis, and rheology, with close collaboration across disciplines.

The successful candidate will synthesize model DCHs, quantify binding thermodynamics and kinetics, and develop theoretical frameworks in collaboration with Prof.

Qualifikationen

  • MSc degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science, physics, polymer science, or related fields.
  • Fluent in English and able to communicate in a highly interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience with rheological characterization, calorimetric or spectroscopic analysis of molecular binding is advantageous.

Aufgaben

  • Synthesize and characterize a broad library of model dynamic covalent hydrogels spanning multiple chemistries and networks.
  • Quantify equilibrium binding constants and reaction kinetics using ITC, NMR, and UV–vis techniques.
  • Relate molecular features to macroscopic rheological properties via experiments and modeling.
  • Develop theoretical and computational frameworks in collaboration with lab colleagues and supervise students.
