Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW in Muttenz is seeking a PhD candidate to rethink antibody and biologics downstream purification. You will design, build and automate downstream unit operations using state-of-the-art pump, filtration and sensor tech, turning ideas into working bioprocess solutions.

The role combines hands-on engineering with a strong publication track record, involving collaboration with an industrial partner and international project teams.

Qualifications

• MSc degree in biochemistry, bioprocess engineering, biotechnology, chemical or process engineering or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment and setups.
• Experience with pumps and filtration systems in bioprocess contexts.
• Solid programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C/C++ or similar).
• Practical protein purification knowledge (chromatography, filtration).

Responsabilités

• Develop and optimize TFF processes (UF/DF, concentration, buffer exchange, clarification) for antibodies and modalities.
• Design, build and automate TFF setups, including SP-TFF and integrated downstream configurations.
• Develop device communication, data acquisition and process control.
• Study pump/flow effects on shear-sensitive products (yield, aggregation, integrity).
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and propose solutions.
• Present results in publications and at conferences with industrial partners.
