Job description

NGT Communications Officer (IT-CE-CHT-2026-242-GRAE)
  • Full-time
  • Compensation: CHF 5,266 - CHF 5,793 - monthly

Are you a motivated communications professional with experience in scientific communication for a wide range of audiences - from technical to the project stakeholders as well as the general public? Would you like to join the team responsible for sharing the excitement of Next Generation Triggers (NGT) Project, activities, and collaborative work, with the outside world? Are you skilled at producing scientific materials across a variety of media (social media, videos, printed documents, web pages, etc.) and in organising events? Take part!

The Next Generation Triggers project, or NextGen, started in January 2024 as a collaboration between CERN (the Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics and Information Technology Departments) and the ATLAS and CMS experiments. The key objective of the five-year NextGen project is to get more physics information out of the HL-LHC data. The hope is to uncover as-yet-unseen phenomena by more efficiently selecting interesting physics events while rejecting background noise. Scientists will make use of advanced algorithmic and computational approaches, from AI/ML to FPGAs, to improve the theoretical modelling and optimise their tools in the search for ultra-rare events.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and implement NGT strategic communication plan, ensuring alignment with CERN IT, CERN openlab, ATLAS, CMS and central communications rules.
  • Plan, create and coordinate social media content and communication campaigns for dissemination across CERN, CERN Computing, ATLAS, CMS and other relevant channels, working with the corresponding communication teams.
  • Develop, manage and evolve NGT's website, ensuring high-quality content, strong visual identity, and effective user experience.
  • Plan, create, and analyse social media campaigns from editorial planning to performance reporting, using appropriate multimedia and analytics tools.
  • Conceptualise and produce high-quality publications and visual materials (annual reports, brochures, leaflets, promotional items) using professional design tools such as InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Act as the communication interface between CERN NGT management, NGT stakeholders and CERN central communication teams.
  • Support and manage the communication of the CERN STEAM Academy, including its website and digital content, promotion, lecture programme, student communications and related activities.
  • Support the communication surrounding NGT workshops and other events, including participant communications, promotional content and related tasks.

Your profile

  • Experience in communicating science, technology and innovation topics, preferably in multicultural or international environments.
  • Strong science and technology writing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical topics into accessible, engaging content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Proven experience developing and managing digital content and websites using CMS platforms such as WordPress.
  • Experience producing multimedia content, including visual assets, graphics and short-form videos, using tools such as Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut.
  • Strong editorial and visual design skills, including proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders in international and multicultural environments.
  • Demonstrated presentation, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
