Jobbeschreibung

The Mechanical Engineer will act as secretary to the Working Party on Passive Safety and provide expert assistance in developing vehicle regulations under various international agreements. The role involves technical, legal, and administrative functions related to vehicle safety regulations, supporting transport policy development to reduce road casualties, and representing the secretariat at international meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as secretary to the Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) and provides expert assistance in developing vehicle regulations under the legal framework of international agreements.
  • Prepares and reviews working documents, drafts agendas and reports, services meetings, and undertakes follow-up actions.
  • Liaises with representatives of Contracting Parties and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
  • Provides technical and legal assistance to clarify complex issues on passive safety requirements and find compromise solutions.
  • Performs technical, legal, and administrative functions related to the Agreement of 25 June 1998 administered by the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29).
  • Analyzes and evaluates national vehicle regulations and standards proposed for listing in the Compendium of Candidates and Global Registry.
  • Maintains and updates the Compendium of Candidates and Global Registry.
  • Issues Official Notifications to Contracting Parties concerning changes in regulations.
  • Ensures public availability of documents related to regulations.
  • Assists in preparation of WP.29 and Administrative Committee sessions, including preparing legal documents, voting tables, and drafting reports.
  • Contributes to analytical and capacity building activities related to passive safety to support transport policy development.
  • Cooperates with UN Member States and other UN Agencies and International Organizations on transport and vehicle passive safety.
  • Assists in consolidating legal texts of regulations under GRSP responsibility.
  • Acts as focal point for pillar three (safer vehicles) of the decade of action for road safety and its follow-up.
  • Contributes to multi-disciplinary activities relevant to vehicle passive safety and represents the secretariat at conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Performs any other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Engineering, Human Factors, or related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in these or related specialized fields of study in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in transport, mechanical/electrical engineering, automotive sector or related area is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in active or passive vehicle safety is desirable.
  • Experience in policy formulation, preferably in a governmental or international organization, is desirable.
  • Experience in servicing relevant international meetings, including the drafting of reports, is desirable.
  • English is required.
  • Either French or Arabic or Spanish or Russian or Chinese (Mandarin) is desirable.
