Job summary

Mane Contract Services in Zurich is seeking an experienced design manager to coordinate the design delivery on major data centre projects; lead planning through to delivery, working with clients, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.

The role is M&E/electrical biased, requires around 5-7+ years of senior experience, BIM environment experience, and a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; you will manage design scopes, schedules and design teams across project phases.

Job description

A leading engineering and construction business is looking for an experienced design manager to join its growing team in Zurich, working on major mission-critical projects within the data centre sector.

This is a senior design role with responsibility for coordinating the design process from initial planning through to delivery, working closely with clients, consultants, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will be M&E/electrical biased, with strong experience working on complex construction projects. A technical or trade background followed by further engineering education would be particularly well suited to the role.

The role

You will take responsibility for coordinating design delivery across a major project, ensuring design packages are properly planned, resourced, coordinated and delivered against programme.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing design delivery schedules and design milestones
• Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants
• Managing design scopes, deliverables, fees and commercial aspects
• Supporting the procurement and appointment of design consultants
• Reviewing design information for quality, accuracy and completeness
• Managing design changes, technical issues and design document control
• Allocating workloads across internal and external design teams
• Monitoring progress and implementing recovery plans where required
• Leading design meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders
• Working closely with project management and construction teams to optimise design delivery
• Managing design through the various project phases
• Supporting planning, programming and project reporting

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in candidates who have:

• A M&E or electrical engineering background
• Experience working on data centres, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or other major industrial projects
• Around 5-7+ years' relevant experience
• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering/design teams
• Strong understanding of design programme, cost and fee management
• Experience working within a BIM environment
• Experience managing engineers and/or design team members
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
