Job summary

Helvetic Payroll is seeking an experienced Data Engineer in Geneva to design, build and maintain scalable data solutions on Google Cloud Platform. The role focuses on ELT/ETL pipelines, dbt models, and production-grade operations starting January or February 2027.

You will work with Analytics Engineers and AI Engineers to translate business needs into robust data products, upholding observability, security and reliability across environments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering data engineering solutions on GCP, particularly with BigQuery.
• Strong SQL skills including data modelling, performance optimisation and partitioning.
• Solid experience with dbt including project structure, tests, documentation.
• Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow / Cloud Composer / Dagster / Prefect.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Git-based collaboration (code reviews, releases).
• Practical experience with Terraform and multi-environment management.
• Good understanding of IAM, least-privilege access and service accounts.
• Good Python skills with focus on clean code, packaging and API integration.
• Strong production mindset with observability, reliability, security and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing scalable data architectures on GCP, using BigQuery and Cloud Composer.
• Developing and maintaining reliable ELT/ETL pipelines.
• Building analytics-ready data models with dbt across staging, warehouse and mart layers.
• Implementing data documentation, testing and quality checks.
• Setting up and maintaining CI/CD processes with GitLab, including quality gates and promotion across environments.
• Managing cloud infrastructure with Terraform, IAM permissions and networking dependencies.
• Developing Python components for data ingestion, orchestration, data quality, and automation.
• Taking ownership of production operations: monitoring, alerting, incident response, cost management and performance tuning.
• Collaborating with Analytics Engineers, AI Engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into data products.
