Job summary

EPFL in Lausanne is seeking a Technician for the LéXPLORE platform to join a small, collaborative team. You will help operate and maintain the floating research infrastructure on Lake Geneva, ensuring high-quality data and reliable instrumentation for ongoing environmental monitoring projects.

The role involves field work, equipment maintenance, data management, and outreach activities, with regular interactions among researchers, engineers, students, and the public.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with technical systems and field operations.
• Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting technical equipment.
• Good command of French and English; German is an asset.
• Valid driving license; boat and trailer licenses are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of LéXPLORE.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot scientific instrumentation, including sensor calibration, sampling system configuration, technical procedures, and data quality control.
• Maintain, repair, and improve the platform’s infrastructure and equipment; include installations, cleaning, routine maintenance, power supply systems, ROV inspections and recovery operations.
• Provide technical support to research groups and contribute to successful implementation of scientific projects on LéXPLORE.
• Contribute to data management and curation activities, and collaborate with the DATALAKES team to ensure efficient data flows and clear datasets documentation.
• Support outreach and communication activities, including public visits and media events.
