The School of Basic Sciences at EPFL invites applications for a faculty position in experimental particle physics. The appointment will be at the Tenure Track level, with an expected start date in 2027 (or mutually agreed upon).
Applications from any sub-field of particle physics are welcome. Candidates with expertise in artificial intelligence and/or detector instrumentation are particularly encouraged to apply. The faculty position offers the opportunity to join the experimental high-energy physics group at the Institute of Physics (IPHYS) of EPFL. The group has been strongly involved in the LHCb experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider since its inception and will contribute to the second detector upgrade, which will enable enhanced data-taking capabilities, extending the experiment’s scientific reach beyond 2036. The group is also engaged in the preparation of possible new experiments at the FCC-ee, recommended as the next CERN flagship collider. The position offers the opportunity to join the LHCb collaboration while developing ideas for the longer-term, in an environment providing strong technical support in detector development and the possibility to collaborate with theoreticians.
Candidates should hold a PhD in particle physics or a closely related field and demonstrate an outstanding record of scientific achievement, innovation, and leadership commensurate with their career stage. The successful applicant is expected to develop a creative and ambitious experimental research programme, supervise students and researchers, attract external funding, and engage in physics teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
