The Equipment Development Engineer supports custom capital equipment projects for medical device manufacturing lines at the Tolochenaz site. This role contributes to the equipment engineering lifecycle from concept to site installation—assisting in translating Voice of Operations/Process (VOX) into technical specifications, collaborating with machine builders through design and fabrication, executing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and completing Installation Qualification (IQ) before handoff to Process Engineering.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
  • Requirements & Specification (VOX to URS): Support the translation of Voice of Operations and Voice of Process (VOX) into User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Specifications (FS), and initial equipment risk assessments (Machine FMEA).
  • Vendor Integration & Design Reviews: Participate in technical design reviews (PDR/DDR) with machine builders for custom automated and semi-automated equipment, evaluating mechanical assembly, electrical schematics, control logic, and safety systems.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT): Execute FAT protocols on-site at machine builder facilities. Test and verify machine build quality, PLC/HMI logic, safety interlocks, sensor/vision functionality, and baseline cycle times prior to shipment approval.
  • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) & Installation: Coordinate equipment delivery, utility connections, and SAT execution at the Tolochenaz facility. Track vendor punch-list resolution and verify facility and safety integration.
  • Installation Qualification (IQ): Draft and execute Installation Qualification (IQ) protocols in compliance with ISO 13485 standards, ensuring all physical, electrical, utility, software, and calibration requirements are verified and documented.
  • Operations Readiness: Compile equipment technical documentation (as-built drawings, spare parts lists, maintenance manuals) and assist in training maintenance technicians and process engineering teams prior to OQ/PQ execution.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • Education & Experience: Degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 2–4 years of practical experience in equipment engineering and automated machinery, ideally within a regulated industry (Medical Device, Pharma, or Precision Engineering).
  • Automation & Machinery Expertise: Practical understanding of fully automated and semi-automated production equipment, mechatronics, PLCs, robotics, pneumatics, and vision systems.
  • Execution Framework: Hands‑on involvement in equipment development milestones (URS,FAT,SAT,IQ).
  • Languages: Fluency in French and English (written and spoken) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Equipment Manufacturer / OEM Background: Prior experience working directly for a custom equipment manufacturer, machine builder, or automation integrator is highly desirable. This background provides valuable insight into mechanical/electrical machine build processes, vendor-side dynamics, and site commissioning.
  • Hands‑on experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and machinery safety/CE standards.
