Zusammenfassung

CERN is seeking an electromechanical technician for the ORIGIN programme to support testing, installation and commissioning of energy extraction systems across accelerator infrastructure. You will contribute to equipment testing, documentation and quality assurance under training provisions.

Qualifikationen

  • Two years maximum of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and/or Electromechanics (or a related field).
  • Highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • Applicants with Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degrees are not eligible.
  • Spoken and written English; commitment to learn French.

Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic and curious electromechanical technician looking for a challenging professional experience? If so, joining CERN's ORIGIN programme may be the perfect opportunity for you.

You will join the Machine Protection Section, which is responsible for energy extraction systems installed in CERN's LHC accelerator complex, a target area and several test buildings across CERN's sites. You will support the team and contribute to the testing and installation of new and upgraded electrical, mechanical and electronic equipment.

All necessary training will be given.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the testing and validation of innovative energy extraction technologies using dedicated test benches and measurement equipment.
  • Participate in the installation, integration and commissioning of electrical and electronic systems for CERN's accelerator infrastructure.
  • Support the operation, maintenance and quality assurance of superconducting magnet protection systems.
  • Develop and perform tests on electronic equipment, analyse results and contribute to technical improvements.
  • Prepare technical documentation, maintain equipment records and work with a broad range of technologies including electronics, instrumentation, control systems and power applications.
  • Experience working on low voltage electrical installations.
  • Basic experience with measurement techniques.
  • Basic experience in assembling electronic crates, racks, and test benches.
  • Basic experience in power electronics and related control systems.
  • Basic experience in planning electrical and mechanical tests and performing fault finding.
  • Basic experience in installing and maintaining electronic systems and equipment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to write technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and electronic schematics would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of power electronics would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and/or Electromechanics (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.
Additional Information

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
