Position Summary

The Director of Strategy & Operations for European Markets will support the regional commercialization success through driving strategic and impactful initiatives that support EUM success in light of our Strategic Compass and relevant global Enterprise initiatives. This role is critical to the overall business operationalization, the impact of the region and the effectiveness of the European Markets S&O function team and will work closely with the Head of Strategy and Operation for European Markets, Markets S&O lead and the European Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Operations
  • Source, design, drive, implement and track Europe launch excellence initiatives to support growth portfolio in European Markets, partnering and engaging markets stakeholders through innovation.
  • Develop strong S&O community with a focus on accountability and impact mindset.
  • Develop efficient cross-market collaboration and synergy development, partnering with relevant WWBT.
  • Support the EUM S&O Lead in developing EMLT key strategic imperatives and priorities. Monitoring success vs. priorities.
  • Collaborate with Worldwide Commercial capabilities and act as EUM ambassador for key enterprise initiatives to drive business forward including projects within country and across the region, ensuring communications of key strategies and tactics to the markets, and ensuring accountability.
Leadership & Matrix Alignment
  • Act as key point of contact for EU scale initiatives to EU Markets stakeholders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Contribute to relevant WW sub-teams and working teams, or lead European Markets strategic projects, as required.
  • Driving strategic planning process in collaboration with the relevant functions, in light of the International Growth Strategy.
  • Unblocking barriers to knowledge and decision making and support navigation of complex challenges for EMLT and key stakeholders.
  • Support the EUM S&O lead, with pro‑active communication mindset.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Effectively interfacing with various Leadership teams and across BMS matrix to ensure appropriate understanding of European Markets strategic priorities, to ensure cross functional alignment and minimize company risk.
  • Drive enterprise initiatives such as process simplification, engagement, transformation at European Markets level.
  • Provide impactful recommendations and updates to Europe LT.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Masters Degree or MBA preferred but not required.
  • Commercial operation experience strongly desired including understanding of European Markets; Marketing/Sales/S&O (or similar) experience would be a benefit.
  • Mastery in large scale innovative project management, including cross-market implementation (ideally in launches and life cycle management processes).
  • Result-driven mindset with proven track record of impact tracking design and follow through with an analytical lens.
  • >10 years of commercial business experience including US and/or international experience.
  • Leadership experience in achieving results through matrix teams ideally in a global context.
  • Demonstrated agility to navigate and find innovative solution in complex markets.
  • Experience of change management through market or organizational transformation projects.
  • Ability to be proactive in challenge identification, solution finding and communication to management.
  • Ability to provide a strong voice to the markets and the global team and success in effectively communicating and influencing decisions with senior management and matrix team.
  • Ability to “flex” across different types of cultures, work, complexities, business situations and matrix partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully and effectively collaborate and work across boundaries (e.g. R&D, disease mgt., marketing, external development) and building strong external relationships.
  • Broad and in-depth understanding of domestic and international issues relative to the pharmaceutical industry.
