Job summary

VAT Group in Haag, St. Gallen, CH is seeking a Development Engineer (Mechanical Engineering) to design and sustain mechatronic vacuum valves and systems.

You will collaborate with customers in the USA and Asia, coordinate with sales, quality, production, and manage documentation, testing procedures, and manufacturing improvements. The ideal candidate holds a degree in mechanical engineering (FH/ETH) with 3–5 years in development, strong CAD (Siemens NX), and fluent English; German is a plus;

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering (FH/ETH) or comparable qualification.
• Proven expertise in development and design of complex mechatronic systems.
• 3–5 years of professional development experience; vacuum industry ideal.
• Strong communication skills for customer collaboration.
• Solid CAD knowledge, Siemens NX preferred.
• Good working knowledge of ERP and PLM systems.
• Excellent English; German an advantage.
• Willing to travel 10–15%.

Responsibilities

• Development, design and sustainment of mechatronic vacuum valves and systems in an international, dynamic environment.
• Collaborate with customers across USA and Asia to provide customized solutions.
• Coordinate with sales, quality, accounts and product management as well as production.
• Develop test and inspection procedures in cooperation with labs.
• Create and maintain production drawings, BOM and all technical documentation.
• Lead design-for-manufacturing initiatives and product optimization.
• Provide technical expertise for investigations and root cause analysis of quality issues.
• Serve as contact for complex assemblies and products.
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams for challenging projects.

Your Challenges

• Development, design and sustainment of mechatronic vacuum valves and vacuum system technology in an international and dynamic environment
• Close collaboration with customers across USA and Asia in order to provide customized solutions.
• Managing internal interfaces to sales, quality-, account- and product managers as well as production.
• Development of test and inspection procedures in close cooperation with labs.
• Creation and maintenance of production drawings, bill of material and all technical documentation.
• Driving design-for-manufacturing initiatives and product optimization in close cooperation with production and supply chain organizations
• Providing technical expertise in the investigation, root cause analysis, and solutions of quality and reliability issues.
• Responsible contact person for complex assemblies and products.
• Collaboration in an interdisciplinary team for successful implementation of challenging projects.

Your Profile

• Degree in mechanical engineering (FH/ETH) or a comparable qualification.
• Proven expertise in development and design of complex mechatronic systems.
• Several years of professional experience (3-5 years) in development. Ideally in the vacuum industry.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with customers
• Solid CAD knowledge, preferably Siemens NX.
• Good working knowledge of ERP and PLM systems.
• Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken; German language skills are considered an advantage.
• Open to travel (10-15%).
