Job summary

Lonza is seeking a Bioprocess Engineer USP to manage manufacturing projects and drive standardization of equipment and systems at the Visp site. You will lead cross-functional teams, ensure production standardization, and contribute to capital projects for new and existing units.

Requirements include BSc/MSc in biotechnology with 3–5+ years in biotech, experience with mammalian cell culture, stainless steel, and Single Use Systems, plus strong GMP knowledge and communication skills in German

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in biotechnology with relevant experience (>3–5 years).
• Experience in mammalian cell culture and primary capture operations.
• Experience with stainless steel and Single Use Systems.
• Strong leadership and communication across interfaces; team oriented.
• Lean Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt; structured problem solving.
• Experience with DeltaV and/or Syncade Emerson systems.
• Knowledge of deviation investigations including RCA; Change Management.
• Fluent in German and/or English; advanced GMP understanding.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement MC2 standardization equipment strategy and roadmap aligned with local and global Lonza SU strategy.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams as functional lead for all manufacturing aspects of assigned projects.
• Ensure high level of technical and process standardization within the production plant.
• Serve as production expert in capital investment projects for building and commissioning manufacturing units.
• Implement state-of-the-art GMP documents and regulatory requirements for associated SU assets and products.

Our Bioprocess Engineer USP will take over and manage the operational activities of assigned manufacturing projects with overall responsibility of standardization equipment/systems at Up Stream- (USP) within the Business Unit, Manufacturing Complex 2 (6x20kL Large Scale Mammalian).

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and implement MC2 standardization equipment strategy and roadmap in alignment with local (site Visp) and global Lonza SU strategy.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams as functional lead for all manufacturing aspects of assigned projects.
• Ensure a high level of technical and process standardization within the production plant.
• Work as production expert in capital investment projects for building and commissioning of manufacturing units.
• Implement state of the art GMP documents and regulatory requirements for corresponding SU assets and products.

Key requirements:

• BSC/MSc plus respectively > 5/3 years’ experience within the biotechnology industry.
• Excellent biotechnology expertise and/or knowledge in biotechnical engineering preferable in the area of mammalian cell culture and primary capture operations.
• Practical experience with stainless steel and Single Use Systems.
• Strong leadership and very good communication skills through interaction with all kinds of interfaces within and outside the organization; strong team orientation.
• Structured problem solving skills (Lean Six Sigma Yellow / Green Belt), focused and well-organized working attitude; open-minded for new ideas and suggestions; high motivation and dynamic drive; solution-oriented.
• Expert Delta V and/or Syncade Emerson systems.
• Deviation / investigations including RCA
• Change Management
• Fluent in German and/or English; advanced GMP understanding.
