ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR “Social sciences: Education through sport”

Profile

• PhD in sports sciences, social sciences or equivalent qualification;
• Academic teaching experience;
• Proven research record in the field of Education through sport with a disciplinary orientation towards the social sciences;
• Excellent links with international academic networks;
• Ability to attract external research funding;
• Proficiency in French and English, orally and in writing;
• Ability to teach in French within two years.

Teaching (45%)

Six hours a week of teaching throughout the year in French:

• Social sciences and sport (Bachelor’s level class, 2 hours weekly per semester, 3 ECTS, equivalent to 1 hour/year)
• Community sport for young people and education (Master’s level class, 2 hours weekly per semester, 3 ECTS, equivalent to 1 hour/year)
• Health aspects of physical education (Master’s level class, 2 hours weekly per semester, 3 ECTS, equivalent to 1 hour/year)
• Pedagogy of sport and physical education (Bachelor’s level seminar, 4 hours weekly per semester, 6 ECTS, equivalent to 2 hours/year)
• Supplementary supervision of Master’s dissertation (Master’s level, equivalent to teaching 2 hours weekly persemester, 3 ECTS, equivalent to 1 hour/year)

A release from two hours’ weekly teaching / year will be granted during any pre‑tenure period. The post‑holder will supervise Master’s dissertations and PhD theses.

Research (45%)

The post‑holder will pursue their own research in the field of Education through sport (with a disciplinary orientation towards the social sciences). Given the needs of the institute, profiles with a background in psychology are not a priority/expected. The post‑holder will be expected to produce international‑level research publications. It is expected that the post‑holder will be affiliated to one of the research centres

in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and work within the Institute of Sports Sciences (ISSUL).

They will also seek external funding, in particular from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

Administrative responsibilities (10%)

Pursuant to Rectorate Directive 1.13, members of teaching staff are required to take on administrative tasks within their Department, Faculty and the University. For the Faculty, these tasks involve sitting on committees and decision‑making or representation bodies.

The post is located in the Institute of Sports Sciences at the University of Lausanne (ISSUL) and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Remuneration

Pursuant to Rectorate Directive 1.24 on setting the initial salary of teaching staff at the University of Lausanne , the initial salary is set according to the salary scale regardless of age and prior professional experience, but taking the number of years since the award of their PhD into account.
