Clinical Programs & Services Full Time Edmonton, AB $55,000 - $68,000 CAD per year

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week), with some evening/weekend flexibility

Your Purpose

Somewhere in Edmonton right now there is a 15‑year‑old the system has quietly written off, suspended, surveilled, and is one bad week away from doing something that might lead to a criminal charge. IslamicFamily is looking for someone who refuses to write him off. If you believe that the right person showing up at the right moment can change a trajectory, that a young person’s story isn’t finished, and that prevention is worth more than any cell, this is your calling.

Your Impact

• You will walk alongside youth ages 12–24 who are at risk of, or already involved in, gang and criminal activity, one relationship at a time.
• You will meet young people where they actually are: underserved schools, community spaces, and inside youth detention.
• You will make a broken system make sense by navigating it with a young person instead of handing them a phone number.
• You will build real entryways into the supports that change outcomes: counselling, education, employment, mentorship, recreation, culture, and family.
• You will help youth leaving detention or exiting gang life return to community with a plan, not a gap.
• You will strengthen the protective factors: belonging, purpose, skills, relationships, that keep young people out of the justice system for good.

Your Responsibilities

This role is divided across four core areas of responsibility, with most of your time dedicated to intensive youth outreach and case management.

1-Core Area: Intensive Youth Outreach & Case Management (50%)

Focus: Provide relationship‑based support to youth in schools, community settings, and youth detention using strengths‑based, trauma‑informed, and culturally responsive approaches.

Examples of Activities:

• Conducting strengths‑based assessments and developing individualized success plans.
• Providing intensive case management, advocacy, and ongoing follow‑up.
• Connecting youth to counselling, education, employment, housing, recreation, cultural, spiritual, and other community supports.
• Helping youth navigate complex service systems.
• Building protective factors through Positive Youth Development and life skills programming.
• Delivering gang prevention education and supporting healthy decision‑making and relationships.
• Supporting youth transitioning from detention or exiting gang involvement.
• Engaging youth in Green Room programs, leadership opportunities, and community initiatives.

2-Core Area: AreaFamily & Community Engagement (35%)

Focus: Support newcomer, immigrant, refugee, and vulnerable families by improving access to services and strengthening family wellbeing.

Examples of Activities:

• Completing intakes, risk assessments, and safety planning when required.
• Connecting families to financial, housing, legal, educational, counselling, and community resources.
• Assisting with applications, appointments, and service coordination.
• Providing culturally and spiritually responsive education and resources related to youth wellbeing, identity, mental health, and healthy relationships.

3-Core Area: Reporting, Evaluation & Documentation (10%)

Focus: Maintain accurate and confidential records that support quality service delivery.

Examples of Activities:

• Completing case notes and maintaining client records.
• Tracking referrals, participant engagement, and service outcomes.
• Supporting data collection, program evaluation, and grant reporting.

4-Core Area: Program Delivery & Community Collaboration (5%)

Focus: Support the success of IslamicFamily's outreach initiatives.

Examples of Activities:

• Participating in case consultations and community planning.
• Collaborating with the Outreach, Counselling, and Green Room teams.
• Assisting with the planning and delivery of youth programs, workshops, and outreach activities.
• Representing IslamicFamily through community partnerships and engagement.

First 90 Days

• Establish working relationships with community partners, the Edmonton Youth Offender Centre, and priority schools in collaboration with relevant members of our team, including The Green Room Youth Program.
• Build an initial caseload and complete strengths‑based assessments and pathway plans for each youth.
• Set up clear referral pathways into IslamicFamily programs and community supports, with warm‑handoff processes.
• Complete trauma‑informed care and crisis‑intervention onboarding.
• Establish your case‑notes and reporting rhythm aligned to grant requirements.

Qualifications

Required

• A diploma or degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Criminology, Psychology, or a related human services field — or equivalent frontline experience with at‑risk youth.
• Demonstrated experience in case management.
• Competency in Arabic (Somali an asset).
• Legal right to work in Canada.
• Flexibility to work occasional day and evening hours.
• A satisfactory Police Information Check (including vulnerable sector) and clearance to enter youth detention facilities.

Preferred

• Registration as a Social Worker in good standing with the ACSW.
• At least one (1) year in the social services sector.
• Experience with at‑risk, vulnerable, and justice‑involved youth.
• Familiarity with newcomer, refugee, and Muslim populations.
• Direct experience in an intake or casework role.
• Training in trauma‑informed care, crisis intervention, and family/domestic violence.
• Experience in addictions and substance use.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
• Empathy, patience, and a client‑centered, strengths‑based approach.
• Strong assessment, planning, and systems‑navigation skills.
• Sound judgment and steadiness in high‑risk and detention settings.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building abilities.
• Strong organization and the ability to manage competing priorities, independently and as part of a team.
