Job description
Position Overview

Youth Employment Mentor, full‑time indefinite term position (Brandon‑based position; 613 10th Street Office). Competition Number: 29/25. Posting closes Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. This is a full‑time position for 36.25 hours per week on the CCW1 salary scale, ranging from $41,951.33 to $54,449.64 annually. Successful candidates will join the Agency’s comprehensive benefits and pension plan after a six‑month probationary period.

Responsibilities
  • Assist current and former youth in care, ages 16‑29, to understand and prepare for success in the labour market and secure independence.
  • Develop life skills related to seeking and keeping employment.
  • Establish employment‑related action plans with youth.
  • Perform community outreach with employers, local CFS agencies, youth‑serving organisations, and educational and employment programming organisations.
  • Prepare regular reports.
  • Build trusting and respectful relationships with youth and employers to help overcome barriers to employment and independence.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a social sciences or child and youth care discipline preferred; a combination of related education and previous direct experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with and creatively motivating teenagers and young adults to develop life skills and successfully meet educational and employment goals.
  • Proven ability to communicate well and build relationships with teenagers and young adults.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the experience of youth growing up in care.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, demonstrating non‑judgemental, adaptable, and patient manners.
  • Knowledge of the Manitoba child welfare system and the Child and Family Services Act is an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal, organisational, problem‑solving and advocacy skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self‑starter, as well as work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Competency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Access to a vehicle for work use.
Additional Information / Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Records Check (including vulnerable sector), Prior Contact Check, and a Driver's Abstract Check is required. The candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred for the Criminal Record Check; the Agency will pay for the other three security checks.
