Job summary

Tenaris in Nisku, Alberta, is seeking a Yard Technician (Swamper) to support logistics and yard operations within the Supply Chain team. You will perform manual labour, load and unload OCTG and accessories, and use RFID scanners with the Yard Management System to track inventory.

This safety-sensitive role requires attention to quality, teamwork, and effective communication on radios. A Class 5 driver's license, forklift or skid-steer certification, and First Aid are preferred; the position

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of manual labour experience, preferrably in industrial setting or inventory handling.
• Class 5 Driver’s License with clean record is an asset.
• Forklift and/or Skid steer operation experience and certificate is an asset.
• First Aid Certification is required (can be trained after hired).

Responsibilities

• Load and unload OCTG and accessories onto trucks alongside operator teams.
• Create blocking on wood lengths and place between pipe tiers.
• Use tablets to scan inventory during receipt and shipment.
• Set up safe work areas using cones and assist drivers.
• Perform material handling, counting, sorting, packing and unpacking.
• Ensure product quality and report deviations.
• Maintain productivity and asset usage while complying with standards.
• Attend training and participate in continuous improvement and safety programs.

Yard Technician (Swamper)

LOCATION: Nisku- Alberta -Canada

The role of Yard Technician within the Supply Chain department supports logistics and yard operations by performing various manual labour tasks to support the movement of pipe and other materials within the yard according to applicable procedures, complying with defined quality standards. Stock is tracked in an efficient and accurate manner using RFID scanners on handheld devices in conjunction with the Yard Management System (YMS). This position works alongside equipment operators to load pipe onto truck beds according to customer inventory and material order details (i.e. picking slip). The role also involves assisting with the unloading of incoming trucks bringing inventory from other Tenaris or customer’s facilities. Effective communication on radio devices is essential. This position will be required to work varied hours including weekends, depending on business needs.

Please note:

• Tenaris requires employees to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and fit test for this position as it is a safety sensitive position.
• This position is on a night shift schedule consisting of five 10-hour shifts per week.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Loader and Pettibone Operators to load and unload OCTG and accessories onto trucks
• Use power and manual tools to create blocking on wood lengths to be placed in-between tiers of pipes
• Use tablets to scan each piece of inventory incoming/outgoing from yard setting
• Spot for equipment operator and use cones to setup safe work area while equipment is moving pipe
• Assist truck and delivery drivers to load and unload vehicles
• Perform other material handling activities such as counting, sorting, packing and unpacking
• Ensure product quality comply with defined standards and reporting deviations
• Carry out duties in an effective manner meeting productivity and efficiency standards
• Ensure proper use of the company assets, detecting and reporting malfunctioning equipment
• Attend and collaborate in training activities in order to maintain and increase the company knowledge
• Proactively suggest improvements and participate in continuous improvement activities
• Actively participate in company safety meetings, procedures and programs; correct unsafe work practices or situations; follow reporting protocols for violations; participate in the Hazard Identification process
• Perform other duties as required, including, but not limited to effective yard and warehouse clean-up, yard maintenance, administrative duties and operating company vehicle as required

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of manual labour experience handling tubular products preferred, but candidates with manual labour work experience in an industrial setting and inventory experience will be considered
• Class 5 Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract, an asset
• Forklift and/or Skid steer operation experience and certificate, an asset
• First Aid Certification required (can be trained after hired)

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day; ability to walk / stand for duration of shift
• Comfortable working outside for long durations in varied weather conditions
• Experience and comfortability working around heavy equipment
