Yard Technician

LOCATION: Sherwood Park- Alberta-Canada

DEPARTMENT: SUPPLY CHAIN

Role

This entry level role of Yard Technician within the Supply Chain department supports logistics and yard operations by performing various manual labour tasks to support the movement of pipe and other materials within the yard according to applicable procedures, complying with defined quality standards. Stock is tracked in an efficient and accurate manner using RFID scanners on handheld devices in conjunction with the Yard Management System (YMS). This position works alongside equipment operators to load pipe onto truck beds according to customer inventory and material order details (i.e. picking slip) as well as to offload incoming inventory from railcars using man baskets and fall protection gear. Effective communication on radio devices is essential. This position will be required to work varied hours including on-call and weekends, depending on business needs.

Please note: Tenaris requires employees to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and fit test for this position as it is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside Loader and Pettibone Operators to load and unload OCTG and accessories onto trucks
  • Support Pettibone Operators to efficiently offload OCTG tubular products from railcars and clean debris
  • Use power and manual tools to create blocking on wood lengths to be placed in-between tiers of pipes
  • Use tablets to scan each piece of inventory incoming/outgoing from yard setting
  • Spot for equipment operator and use cones to setup safe work area while equipment is moving pipe
  • Assist truck and delivery drivers to load and unload vehicles
  • Perform other material handling activities such as counting, sorting, packing and unpacking
  • Ensure product quality comply with defined standards and reporting deviations
  • Carry out duties in an effective manner meeting productivity and efficiency standards
  • Ensure proper use of the company assets, detecting and reporting malfunctioning equipment
  • Attend and collaborate in training activities in order to maintain and increase the company knowledge
  • Proactively suggest improvements and participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate in company safety meetings, procedures and programs; correct unsafe work practices or situations; follow reporting protocols for violations; participate in the Hazard Identification process
  • Perform other duties as required, including, but not limited to effective yard and warehouse clean-up, yard maintenance, administrative duties and operating company vehicle as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of manual labour experience handling tubular products preferred, but candidates with manual labour work experience in an industrial setting and inventory experience will be considered
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract, an asset
  • Air Brake Endorsement for Shunt Truck, an asset (Sherwood Park Location only)
  • Skid steer operation experience and certificate, an asset
  • First Aid Certification required (can be trained after hired)
  • Railway Safety, Working at Heights, and Ariel Lift training required (can be trained once hired)
