Your opportunity

The Work Study program provides thousands of meaningful on‑campus paid work opportunities for students at the University of Toronto. The program aims to deepen knowledge, strengthen skills, explore careers and understand how academic studies translate to career possibilities. Learning is at the center of the experience.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Employer Recruitment & Engagement, and supervised by the Lead Coordinator, Career Exploration & Workplace Learning, the Work Study Program Officer will work closely with other members of Career Exploration & Education and the tri‑campus Work Study Governance Committees. The Officer will facilitate the program by providing ongoing support in the form of administrative coordination and learning design and delivery. This will involve collaborating with tri‑campus Work Study colleagues to administer program processes, coordinating program milestones, developing tailored communications, overseeing the position review and approval process, coordinating program hiring logistics with program supervisors, managing a general email inbox, and using survey tools to evaluate impact and effectiveness.

The Officer will also support the development of information sessions, learning and development training programs for supervisors and students, networking and appreciation events, as well as support Career Exploration & Education events, activities and programming more broadly.

The Officer will assist the Lead Coordinator in identifying learning outcomes associated with work‑integrated learning frameworks and lead the development and facilitation of learning and engagement events to support supervisors and students within the program. They will tailor supports to increase access to the program for Indigenous and other equity‑deserving student communities and will contribute to projects and priorities that support students in developing greater clarity around values, interests, identities, workplace needs and experiences that positively influence career direction, success, and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co‑curricular programs and activities. Preparing summary reports on programs and services.
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives. Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities and reports.
  • Conducting post‑event evaluation and analysis and tracking program metrics to inform continuous service improvements. Analyzing service delivery and/or internal processes and recommending improvements.
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars.
  • Managing a tri‑campus general email inbox serving both supervisors and student inquiries. Implementing programming to foster students' individual career development process.
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students.
  • Advising students on career‑related matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background.
  • Providing program development and administrative support for a large‑scale work‑integrated learning program.
Essential Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a university career centre, placement, co‑op or recruitment setting, developing and maintaining relationships, including active outreach.
  • Minimum three (3) years of program development experience, particularly developing learning outcomes, reflection activities, and evaluation tools.
  • Minimum three (3) years of facilitation experience, delivering workshops in group settings.
  • Experience supporting students one‑to‑one through advising or coaching.
  • Experience managing effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (including employers, alumni, students, staff and faculty).
  • Broad knowledge of labour market trends.
  • Solid understanding of student and career development theories and experiential learning models.
  • Proven ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and independently prioritize own workflow.
  • Strong relationship cultivation, building and management skills.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to source information and data using the Internet and social media sites such as LinkedIn.
  • Strong written communication skills (e.g. report writing; drafting content for communications materials) and ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse university student population.
