Your Contribution to NRSI

NRSI is looking for multiple locally-situated, motivated and independent individuals to conduct monitoring activities in the field, primarily conducting wildlife mortality searches and/or placing bird and bat test carcasses at operating wind energy facilities near Swift Current, Assiniboia and/or Kipling, SK.

  • Kipling (2 positions)
  • Swift Current (up to 2 positions)
  • Assiniboia (up to 2 positions)

These positions provide an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data employing a high attention to detail. These positions will report to one of NRSI’s Renewable Energy Project Managers or Field Coordinators.

  • Position I involves higher, more consistent weekly hours
  • Position II involves limited, early-morning hours
Primary duties and responsibilities
  • Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
  • Communicating frequently with project managers, other field staff, and clients,
  • Conducting field work according to a strict schedule, and safely collecting and/or handling bird and bat carcasses,
  • Occasional assistance with other field-or office-related tasks
Your Education
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.
Key Job Requirements
  • Willing and able to work under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on holidays or weekends, if needed.
  • Physically fit in order to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain.
  • Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field.
  • A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
  • A valid driver's license and over 18 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle.
  • Able to safely drive on rough roads and terrain.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Able to reliably commute to the field work location on a regular basis by the start date.
Assets
  • Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys, soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.
  • A reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes (authorized mileage will be reimbursed).

Application Requirements

Position Start Date: April 1, 2026.

Position End Date: October 15, 2026.

Location: Project sites in Saskatchewan near Kipling, Swift Current and Assiniboia.

Salary: $22.00-$25.00 per hour commensurate on experience.

Estimated Number of Hours per Week

Position I: 32-40 hours/week in April, May, August, September and October.
Position II: 0-4 hours/week in April, May, August, September and October.
A break in monitoring occurs over June and July when minimal work hours are available.
