Role Overview

An exciting career opportunity is available to lead the growth of our Solid Waste Market Sector team in Canada. You will build and manage a team of professionals to enhance services such as circular economy, solid waste planning, facilities design, strategic communication, and zero waste planning. You will provide technical leadership and grow our market share across Western Canada and North America.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide senior consulting and project management leadership in the Waste Sector, managing both planning and engineering projects and developing client relationships.
  • Drive program development in Western Canada, establishing client relationships through networking and lead development.
  • Identify market changes and assess their impact on business; support proposal preparation with technical and marketing staff.
  • Maintain client relationships and provide local support for existing Western Canadian clients and projects.
  • Champion a quality‑culture within the sector organization, representing HDR at professional organizations and industry events.
  • Identify staff needs, lead hiring, and build a team to support project work in Western Canada.
  • Travel across North America as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience with regulatory and permitting agencies, proposal writing, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for complex waste projects, plus management of a team.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
  • Strong client relationship development and project pursuit experience.
  • Experience in staff development: recruiting, career paths, and professional growth.
  • Active involvement in industry associations and a visible market profile.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a broad audience.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and research abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized in the location of the position.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience a plus).
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning skills.
